Rainbow Territory update

Rainbow Territory is meeting fortnightly and is working on the following
– review of the Anti-Discrimination Act
– long term funding for Safe Schools
– mental health & suicide prevention advocacy
– change the births, deaths and marriages act NT so that people don’t have to get gender reassignment surgery to change their ID to their gender identity
– supporting community connection through the outnt website and other projects

What have we done recently?
– submission to the review of the NT Anti-Discrimination Act
– submission and presentation to the Federal review of Religious Freedoms
– worked on our internal processes
– had a social dinner together so we could take a break from meetings!

You can get involved too. Email: lgbtqi2014nt@gmail.com

Not interested in any of the above? If you have an idea and want people to work on it with you, Rainbow Territory can help share information or a call to action through the OUTNT Facebook page or this newsletter, just get in touch and tell us what you need.

And finally, if you want to provide feedback about Rainbow Territory’s work (good and bad) you can do so via the outnt website www.outnt.info/rainbowterritory We work on things that we think are important to the community, so tell us how we are going.

Can you help update the QLife database for the NT?

Two community members are running a project to improve and update the listings on the QLife database for the NT.

QLife is Australia’s first nationally-oriented counselling and referral service for LGBTI people. QLife provides nation-wide, early intervention, peer supported telephone and web based services to diverse people of all ages experiencing poor mental health, psychological distress, social isolation, discrimination, experiences of being misgendered and/or other social determinants that impact on their health and wellbeing. Why does it need to be updated? Counsellors who are online get requests for help from the NT, but the list of organisations who can help on the ground is not up to date. This means people in the NT can’t get on the ground help.

What can you do? If you know about or work for an organisation that you think should be on the QLife database please email the details to outnt@outnt.info

Please include the following:

  • Service name
  • Service category
  • Description of service
  • Languages spoken/offered at the service
  • Location, phone and website details
  • Age group serviced
  • Other important information

Darwin Fringe Festival – let’s talk about (gay) sex baby!

Books Gone Wilde the regular LGBTQI community library has had a lot of erotica donated to it over the years. But it just doesn’t get read enough. Some of it is good, some of it is so bad its good, and some of it is currently being eaten by moths. Let’s give it some life, and at the same time talk about something we all think about about – sex.

The people who run Books Gone Wilde want to run an event at the Darwin Fringe Festival in 2018 that takes some of the erotica from the page to the stage. We need people who are interested in performing some erotica on stage (not actually shagging, just actually reading or performing through words).

March – planning
April – auditions/call for talent (or talentless…)
May – rehearsal x 1
June – rehearsal x 2
July – perform at the Fringe, one night only!

You have to be over 18 to participate and attend, but we have no upper age limit. For more information email: outnt@outnt.info or PM Books Gone Wilde on facebook.
