Ruth is a general practitioner in an inner-urban Melbourne general practice, and an Honorary Associate Professor at the Department of General Practice, University of Melbourne. She has clinical and research interests in lesbian and bisexual women’s mental health, sexual health, same-sex parenting, trans health, health care access, health care provider cultural competence training, and cultural issues related to alcohol and smoking in the LGBT communities. She is currently coordinating a research project on LGBTI homelessness, and conducted research for beyondblue in 2015 on help seeking amongst rainbow women. Her PhD explored the patient-doctor relationship between same sex attracted women and their usual GP. She is the Co-Chairperson of the Victorian LGBTI Health and Human Services Working group and a member of the LGBTI Taskforce (2015-2018). She is Chairperson of the Gay and Lesbian Foundation of Australia, and is a founding member and previous Convener of the Australian Lesbian Medical Association.
