Her latest exhibition of stunning black and white images entitled “But you’re not ugly” explores the effects commonplace, yet disparaging, statements can have … in this case, on the lives of young and older women.
She takes a before-and-after approach to this exhibition shooting the women in portrait pose then provides an accompanying image that relates to a statement or moment that has effected them deeply.
The exhibition explores a dark, personal area of a woman’s psyche that may be confronting for the viewer but cathartic for those who posed for Ritchie. It is an exhibition of strong, simple photography composed with sensitivity and compassion.
